Norwegian naval architect Skipsteknisk has been awarded a contract to develop a series of crab catchers for one of the largest Russian fishing companies.

Under construction at Turkey's Tersan Shipyard for the Murmansk-based ArcticService, the first in the series has an overall length of 62 metres, a 15-metre beam and accommodation for a crew of 38.

The vessels will have the capacity to retrieve king and snow crabs in water depths of up to 400 metres in the Barents Sea.

Norway's Bjørdal Industrier will supply the full factory deck design to handle, cook and freeze the catch.
