The Philippine Coast Guard has rescued two fishermen who had gone adrift in the waters off Occidental Mindoro province after their vessel capsized in bad weather over a week prior.

The fishermen were rescued by the crew of a coast guard patrol boat near the town of Paluan on the province’s west coast on the morning (local time) of Thursday, October 29.

The survivors said they had gone out to sea from nearby Batangas province along with a third individual in the same boat on October 17. However, strong winds and large waves had caused their vessel to overturn far from shore.

The coast guard said it is continuing to comb the area for any trace of the third fisherman, who had gone missing following the capsizing.

The survivors were later brought ashore in Batangas for medical treatment and have since been reunited with their respective families.
