Indian pilot project seeks to prove feasibility of LNG-fueled fishing boats

Reuters reports that the Development and Innovation Strategic Council of the Indian state of Kerala (K-DISC) is set to launch a pilot project to determine the feasibility of LNG as a fuel for fishing vessels.

Under the project, an existing diesel-powered fishing boat will have its propulsion system converted into a dual-fuel system that will run on both diesel and LNG.

The hull of the selected vessel will also be modified to house an LNG storage tank and other related equipment as part of the retrofit programme.

The K-DISC has set September 7, 2019, as its deadline for accepting proposals from interested parties.
