Havfisk orders stern trawler

Vard has been awarded a NOK400 million (US$51.4 million) contract for the design and construction of a stern trawler for Havfisk.

Based on the design of Havfisk’s stern trawler Nordtind, which was delivered from Vard in January, the 80-metre by 17-metre trawler will feature an advanced fish factory, two separate cargo holds for refrigerated and frozen fish, and a freezing capacity of 80 tonnes per 24 hours.

Featuring an integrated energy storage system (diesel mechanical/diesel electric propulsion and batteries) for use when trawling, in transit or in harbour, the vessel will include improved catch handling with a live fish tank, while head and guts will be stored in ensilage tanks.

High ice class, Silent F compliance and modern living quarters will also be incorporated.

The hull will be built at Vard Braila in Romania, while outfitting and completion will be carried out at Vard Søviknes in Norway.

Delivery is scheduled for the first quarter of 2020.
