Naming ceremony for Arctic shrimp trawler

A new Arctic shrimp trawler for Canadian company MV Osprey is being named at Tersan Shipyard in Turkey.

The Nova Scotia-based company ordered the vessel, which is based on a Skipsteknisk design, in November 2015.

The 80.25-metre vessel, Northern Osprey III, is designed with a high ice-class for operation outside Newfoundland and Labrador.

Powered by a Tier III MAN main engine of 6,000kW coupled to a gearbox with PTO/PTI capacity of 3,200kW, it accommodates 38 people and includes a media/movie room, gymnasium and sauna.

Featuring the latest energy conservation and pollution reduction technology within DNV-GL’s clean ship designation, the vessel is outfitted with a processing and freezing plant with a capacity of 125 tonnes per day.

Processing is arranged for grading, cooking and packing of different sizes of shrimps and processing of head and gutted white fish.

Northern Osprey III is arranged for pallet cargo in two separate cargo holds with individual freezing.
