SinkabergHansen acquires Akva barge with innovative waterborne feeding system

FISHING/AQUACULTURE WEEK

SinkabergHansen, an aquaculture operator based in Rørvik in central Norway, recently acquired a new feed barge from local supplier Akva Group.

The 44- by 12-metre barge features a ten-line feeding system that operates on the principle of waterborne feeding. Tests have shown this alternative form of feeding to be capable of a 70 to 90 per cent reduction in energy requirements compared to air feeding.

Waterborne feeding is also proven to be very quiet in operation, and the system may be powered by a hybrid battery package to reduce noise and pollutant emissions.

Svein-Gustav Sinkaberg, CEO of SinkabergHansen, said the waterborne feeding system makes the barge ideal for deep feeding.
