Norwegian fish farm operator Eidsfjord Sjøfarm has taken delivery of a new feed barge from local manufacturer AKVA Group.

The barge is the fifth in a series to be acquired by the same customer. It has a v-shaped hull with a large bilge keel to withstand rough seas from all sides without compromising stability.

The barge is certified for a significant wave height of 5.5 metres and has a feed storage capacity of 600 tonnes. A total of eight feeding lines can be placed both in the bow or out on the port side.

Roger Simonsen, General Manager of Eidsfjord Sjøfarm, said the new feed barge will be placed at the company’s roughest location. AKVA said that, due to the strong forces that are prevalent at the location, it is possible to feed from both the v-bow as well as from the side for better flexibility.

This specific barge model was first developed in collaboration with Eidsfjord Sjøfarm and is adapted to the rough conditions at their locations in Northern Norway with a flat roof without a wheelhouse.
