Norway Royal Salmon subsidiary to get new feed barge

FISHING/AQUACULTURE WEEK

Arctic Offshore Farming (AOF), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Norway Royal Salmon, will soon take delivery of a new feed barge from local company AKVA Group.

Once completed, the barge will have a length of 64.8 metres, a beam of 12 metres, a displacement of 800 tonnes, and the ability to operate even in wave heights of 6.5 metres, making it ideal for extreme conditions typical in exposed locations. Onboard facilities will include six crew cabins, three bathrooms, a kitchen, and two veterinary rooms.

The barge will also be equipped with an integrated garage capable of handling 10.5-metre-long boats and a bottom outlet for feed hoses in order to be able to use all sides of the barge for receiving feed.

The vessel will be capable of waterborne feeding wherein up to 100 kilograms of feed per minute could be discharged over a distance of 600 metres.

The barge recently arrived in Norway for final outfitting following the completion of the hull at a yard in Tallinn, Estonia.
