China’s Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding has begun construction of a new semi-submersible fish farm for local aquaculture company Fujian Mintou Deep-sea Equipment Leasing.

Named Mintou No 1, the structure was designed by the Guangzhou Institute of Energy Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It will have a length of 92 metres, a beam of 36 metres, and capacity for 62,000 cubic metres of seawater.

The platform will also feature automatic feeding equipment, fish breeding facilities, and environmental monitoring sensors.

Mintou No 1 will also have a secondary tourism function through the incorporation of entertainment areas and dining rooms that can accommodate a total of 100 guests.

The structure was designed in compliance to China Classification Society rules.
