Mowi Faroe Islands has taken delivery of a feed barge from local company JT Electric.

The converted vessel, which has been named Arnaberg after a town on Sandoy island in the Faroes, measures 75 metres long and has capacity for up to 700 tonnes of feed to support Mowi’s exposed salmon farming operations. An additional five tonnes of hold space will be for feed for lumpfish.

Although capable of operating with an onboard crew, the barge may also be operated remotely from a shore station.

The vessel will run entirely on electricity supplied via a shore connection, though backup onboard generators have also been installed.
