One person was killed while another 14 have gone missing after a fishing boat caught fire in the waters north of Indonesia’s capital Jakarta on the night of Monday, March 11.

The Jakarta Search and Rescue (SAR) agency despatched some of its units to a point  just off the Thousand Islands Regency after the captain of a fishing boat had reported that another vessel in the same area was on fire.

Jakarta SAR boats that arrived on scene managed to pick up two survivors and one deceased individual out of the water but found none of the remaining 14 crewmembers of the stricken vessel, which has been identified as KM Riki Baru.

The search for the missing 14 crewmembers continues as local authorities launch their investigation to determine the cause of the incident.
