Local authorities in Montenegro have confirmed that a naval vessel originally scheduled to depart on a training cruise was discovered to be carrying drugs on board.

The country’s defence ministry has said that the military police acted on an intelligence tip and boarded the training ship Jadran just hours before its scheduled departure from the port of Tivat on Friday, April 19.

On board the vessel, military police investigators found a total of 50 kilograms of a substance later identified as cocaine.

No arrests have yet been made as no one was present aboard Jadran at the time of the boarding. However, the defence ministry added that the military police and the local civilian police force “are taking steps to uncover the culprits.”
