GEAR | Sea Machines remote helm system selected for Herman Senior offshore tug

US-based Sea Machines Robotics has been awarded a contract to supply a wireless remote helm control system to be installed on an offshore tug owned by Dutch marine contractor Herman Senior.

The system that will be installed on the 23-metre Teddy will provide wireless helm and propulsion control, as well as remote control of auxiliaries and payload equipment such as pumps, winches, and anchor windlasses.

The system will enable the tug’s operator to be in full control of the vessel and on-board payloads with a direct local view of the task, as compared to conventional methods that often rely on signals relayed from another crewmember to the wheelhouse.

Teddy is being used in offshore waters for a variety of marine projects, from towing and cable pulling to mooring and dredge support.
