Royal Canadian Navy christens two offshore patrol ships

The Royal Canadian Navy formally named two of its newest Arctic and offshore patrol ships (AOPS) in a ceremony in Halifax on Sunday, May 29.

The future HMCS Margaret Brooke and HMCS Max Bernays are the second and third vessels to be built under the six-strong Harry DeWolf-class. The vessels have Polar Class 5 hulls to provide icebreaking capability.

The 103-metre ships are being constructed at Irving Shipbuilding as part of the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), an ongoing programme wherein the current surface fleets of the Royal Canadian Navy and the Canadian Coast Guard will be replaced with newer, more capable vessels.
