Bolwerk has been selected as the general contractor to build an international marine terminal for cruise ships and ferries at Pionersky in Russia’s Kaliningrad region.

The terminal will enable the region to boost passenger traffic to 250,000 people a year, and increase Ro-Ro volumes to 80,000 units.

FSUE Rosmorport said Bolwerk was one of two bids and it would build the terminal for RUB7.3 billion (US$124.9 million) once the contract is approved by the Federal Antimonopoly Service of Russia.

The works include: land reclamation to create an artificial territory of 5.16 hectares; dredging of more than 1.2 million cubic metres of materials and deepening to a designed seabed mark of 10.9 metres; and the construction of a protective hydraulic engineering structure with a length of 771 metres.

Two berths with a quay wall of total length of 725 metres will handle cruise ships up to 317.25 metres LOA, 36.8 metres beam and 8.3 metres draught, and ferries up to 211.5 metres LOA, 30.4 metres BOA and 7.5 metres draught.

The port development project also involves construction of a 110.2-metre-long berth for harbour vessels, the passenger terminal and border-crossing checkpoint, and port facilities such as engineering support facilities and navigational aids.
