Construction begins on new rescue ship for Republic of China Navy

Taiwanese shipbuilder CSBC Corporation has begun construction of a new rescue and salvage ship for the Republic of China Navy (RoCN).

In addition to executing rescue and salvage missions, the vessel will also be used for firefighting, responding to marine pollution incidents, and towing of distressed vessels.

The vessel will be designed for navigation even under Beaufort force four wind conditions. A DP system will enable it to maintain its position even when subjected to winds weaker than Beaufort force five and ocean current speeds of just under 2.5 knots.

The new vessel will also have a helicopter deck and space for rescue equipment such as diving bells, lifeboats, and remotely operated vehicles (ROVs).
