Around US$500 million will be invested in a new round of offshore wind projects in New York State, Governor Kathy Hochul confirmed on Wednesday, January 5.

The governor expects the new projects will generate 4.3 GW to power nearly three million households throughout the state.

The investment will also cover related development of ports, manufacturing, and supply chain infrastructure with the aim of making New York an offshore wind supply chain hub servicing the US East Coast.

Among the key projects is the construction of the Ørsted-operated South Fork wind farm off Long Island, the state’s first offshore wind farm. Installation works at the site are scheduled to commence early this year.
