Mitsubishi Heavy Industries to restructure shipbuilding business
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) is establishing shipbuilding companies in Nagasaki and Yokohama under a restructuring that takes effect on January 1.
Under the reorganisation, Mitsubishi Shipbuilding will primarily construct ships requiring high-density outfitting, while Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Marine Structure (MHIMS) will build large ships and marine structures.
Dedicated exclusively to shipbuilding, Mitsubishi Shipbuilding will consolidate MHI’s various bases at Shimonoseki and Nagasaki. It will focus on increasing business in ships, such as ferries and government vessels, and make social contributions in areas affecting the environment.
MHIMS will continue to construct large ships at the Koyagi plant of MHI’s Nagasaki Shipyard and Machinery Works. It will also expand its business in units accommodating new fuels and manufacture of marine steel structures.
