Kuwait Ports Authority unveils facility expansion projects

Kuwait Ports Authority (KPA) has confirmed that it is presently working on expanding its existing capacity, particularly its capacity to handle imported cargo.

In an interview with a local news outlet, KPA director general Sheikh Yousef Al Abdullah Al Sabah said that the country’s older ports of Shuwaikh, Shuaiba, and Doha are being further developed while construction has already begun on two other ports in Al-Shuaiba and in the south of the country.

Mr Al Sabah added that the modernisation of the older ports will enable KPA to accommodate larger vessels as well as reduce discharging times of cargo imported from East Asia.

KPA’s ongoing expansion projects also include the construction of additional warehousing facilities and the introduction of a new online service aimed at streamlining the submission of necessary documentation – such as ships’ manifests – to KPA and the country’s customs authorities.
