Jan De Nul Group nets Formosa 1 offshore wind contract

The Jan De Nul Group has been awarded a contract for the design, procurement and installation of the wind turbine foundations for the Formosa 1 (phase 2) offshore wind farm in Taiwan.

The scope also includes scour protection and cable installation.

The second phase will add 20 6kW offshore wind turbines with a total capacity of 120MW to Formosa 1’s 8MW capacity.

Formosa 1, located three kilometres off the coast of Chunan Town, Miaoli County in north-west Taiwan, will be the first commercial-scale offshore wind farm in Taiwan before 2020.

The Formosa Wind Power Co. is a partnership of Macquarie Capital Group (50 per cent), Ørsted (35 per cent) and Swancor Renewable Energy Co. (15 per cent).

Construction is planned to be completed in 2019.

Manager Offshore Renewables Peter De Pooter said the contract comes only weeks after securing a US$530 million Changhua contract with Taiwan Power Company.
