Hawaii operator welcomes new sightseeing boat

Pride of Maui, a tour company based in Wailuku, Hawaii, has taken delivery of a new sightseeing boat built by Breaux Brothers Enterprises of New Iberia, Louisiana.

The vessel has been named Pride of Maui Elua, “elua” being the Hawaiian translation of “two” as it is the second vessel in the owner’s fleet to bear the name. The earlier Pride of Maui, which is still in operation nearly 30 years after it was delivered, was also built by Breaux Brothers.

The aluminium catamaran has an LOA of 62 feet (18.9 metres), a beam of 16.75 feet (5.2 metres), a draught of only four feet (1.2 metres), and an air-conditioned passenger cabin that can house 49 passengers. Two John Deere 650hp (484kW) diesel engines drive ZF propellers via Twin Disc gearboxes to deliver a speed of 18 knots.

Two Northern Lights 9kW generators supply power for the onboard electronics, which include equipment supplied by Garmin.
