Keel Laid for Royal Canadian Navy’s fifth Harry DeWolf-class patrol ship

Canada’s Irving Shipbuilding has laid the keel for the future HMCS Frederick Rolette, the fifth Harry DeWolf-class Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ship (AOPS) ordered by the Royal Canadian Navy.

The ship honours Frederick Rolette, a Quebec-born officer in the British Royal Navy who became best known for his actions during the War of 1812.

Upon completion, the future Frederick Rolette will measure 103.6 by 19 metres and displace approximately 6,615 tonnes. A Polar Class 5 hull will provide the ship with limited icebreaking capability.

Armament will include a 25-millimetre autocannon and two 12.7-millimetre machine guns.
