Flotte Hamburg, a subsidiary of Germany’s Hamburg Port Authority, has placed an order for a new pilot boat to be built by Baltic Workboats of Estonia.

The vessel, which will be named Hamburg Pilot 1, will have an LOA of 17.95 metres, a beam of 5.87 metres, a draught of only 1.5 metres, a wave-piercing bow, and exhaust gas aftertreatment systems. Two 405kW engines will propel the boat to speeds of up to 20 knots.

The propulsion system will also be able to accommodate climate-neutral fuels in the future even without technical modifications.

The contract awarded to Baltic Workboats also includes an option for an additional pilot boat from the same series.

Hamburg Pilot 1 is scheduled for delivery in 2025. It will replace the earlier pilot boat Lotse 3.
