Carnival Corporation orders LNG-powered cruise ship from German yard

Carnival Corporation has placed an order for a new cruise ship to be built by German shipyard Meyer Werft.

The vessel will be the seventh overall Excel-class cruise ship and the fifth in the class slated for Carnival Corporation’s Carnival Cruise Line brand. Delivery is scheduled for 2028.

Carnival’s newest Excel-class ship will be built on the same platform as its sisters, with the 180,000-ton (163,293-tonne) vessel powered by LNG and capable of carrying over 6,400 guests and 1,800 crew. Facilities will include 10 restaurants, 11 bars, venues for live entertainment, a fitness centre, a spa/salon, and a library.

For recreation, guests will have access to pools, a water park, a casino, activity areas for younger guests, sports courts, a jogging track, duty-free shops, and a roller coaster.

Carnival Corporation said the order for the new ship is contingent upon financing, which the company expects will be completed before the end of this year.
