Slow progress for APL England container removal

AMSA has announced that the APL England remains under detention in the Port of Brisbane and will not be released until its serious deficiencies have been rectified and the vessel is seaworthy.

The unloading of the damaged containers in the Port of Brisbane is continuing slowly as the state of the damaged containers makes removing them difficult and dangerous. At this stage, AMSA noted that it is unlikely that the removal of the damaged containers will be completed before mid-next week.

“AMSA’s investigation is ongoing. Owners, masters and crew operating ships are all responsible for ensuring that their vessels meet the appropriate standards and are safe and that they do not damage Australia’s marine environment,” said AMSA in a ststement. “Further enforcement action against other parties is possible as the investigation continues.”
