Singapore builder unveils new crewboat design

Singapore-based shipyard Strategic Marine has unveiled a new design of fast aluminium crewboat.

Developed in collaboration with Australia's Southerly Designs and Seaspeed Marine Consulting, the vessels in this new series will each have a length of 42 metres and an efficient hull form capable of reducing resistance by as much as eight per cent.

Strategic Marine said that comprehensive model testing at the Australian Maritime College to further verify and validate the performance predictions.

Each crewboat in the series will also have a cargo carrying capacity of 190 DWT, a clear deck area of 140 square metres, a cargo deck area of 120 square metres, and a deck loading capacity of 2.5 tonnes per square metre. It has business class seating capacity for between 80 and 100 passengers with space for 12 crew in seven berths and one medical room/office.

Power will be provided by three Cummins KTA 50 M2 engines delivering 4,026 kW to propel each crewboat to a service speed in excess of 30 knots at 85 per cent MCR and a maximum speed of 32 knots at 100 per cent MCR.
