Port operator International Container Terminal Services (ICTSI) has outlined a proposal for the expansion of the Victoria International Container Terminal (VICT), its 100 per cent owned subsidiary in the Port of Melbourne.

The proposal would lead to improvement works that will allow larger ships to berth at one of Australia’s major ports.

ICTSI will invest over AU$500 million (US$343 million) in addition to the more than AU$700 million (US$481 million) it has already invested in Victoria since the establishment of VICT in 2014.

Under the proposal, ICTSI will undertake a phased development of the Webb Dock North Container Terminal and integrate its operations with VICT. The development will increase VICT’s container capacity to 3.7 million TEUs, allowing for four container berths with the ability to service vessels up to 14,000 TEUs in capacity and up to 367 metres in length.
