New Kangaroo Island to Cape Jervis ferry service finally begins

After a number of false starts, the new service linking Cape Jervis and Kangaroo Island celebrated its first sailing last Friday with the James Cowell.

KI Connect Managing Director David Harris blamed the delays on layers of stifling rules and regulations, which slowed down arrangements for using public infrastructure and the required dredging.

Based in American River, the passenger-only James Cowell will run a daily service to Penneshaw and then on to Cape Jervis, with plans to double the number of crossings.

The existing operator, SeaLink, operates 12 round trips each day in summer, but also carries cars and freight.
