Future NZ supply ship launched at Hyundai Heavy Industries

Hyundai Heavy Industries launched a new fleet supply vessel for the Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN) on Wednesday, April 24.

The 173- by 24-metre auxiliary oiler replenishment (AOR) will be named Aotearoa.

The vessel will have a cargo capacity of up to 8,000 tonnes of diesel fuel and 12 standard six-metre containers as well as a maximum speed of 16 knots. It will also be able to operate on either electric or diesel engine propulsion.

Delivery of the future HMNZS Aotearoa is scheduled for 2020. It will be the largest vessel ever to enter service with the RNZN.
