The Australian Government is set to commit $24 million to the continued upgrade of the Cairns marine precinct.

Norship, Tropical Reef Shipyard, and Austal Australia will receive $8 million each for new naval-certified handstand, all-weather vessel servicing capabilities, new docks, and longer wharves.

Austal Australia COO Ian McMillan said the partnership with Norship and Tropical Reef Shipyard will develop the port through the incorporation of new infrastructure and other facilities. The resulting improvement in local capability will benefit various stakeholders in the commercial sector as well as the Royal Australian Navy and the Australian Border Force.
