Seisia jetty set for major repairs and upgrades

Published on

Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ) is undertaking critical repairs and upgrades to the Seisia jetty and surrounding marine infrastructure in the Northern Peninsula Area.

MSQ said these works will improve safety, extend the facility’s lifespan, and ensure it continues to support local transport and freight operations.

The project includes extensive jetty repairs—such as concrete restoration, rust treatment, painting, and bolt replacement—along with the demolition and replacement of damaged mooring dolphins, which are clusters of piles or structures used to assist vessels in berthing and securing safely at the jetty.

The jetty works are scheduled to begin in April 2025, with dolphin replacement to follow in the middle of this year.

Delivered by RoadTek, these upgrades have been planned in consultation with the Northern Peninsula Area Regional Council and key stakeholders, including ferry and barge operators, to ensure the facilities remain fit for purpose.

In addition to these upgrades, MSQ is exploring solutions to address sediment build-up at the adjacent Seisia barge and boat ramps.

"These repairs and upgrades will improve safety, maintain vital infrastructure, and ensure that Seisia can continue to serve as a crucial transport link for the Northern Peninsula Area and Torres Strait," said Kell Dillon, MSQ General Manager.
