Maritime industry congratulates the Coalition on re-election

Maritime Industry Australia (MIAL) has congratulated the Coalition Government on its re-election at the weekend.

“Over the past few years significant momentum has developed over the need to secure Australia’s strategic maritime skills, an issue acknowledged by the Deputy Prime Minister as being of key importance to the nation in his forward to the 2018 Skills Census,” noted a MIAL release.

“MIAL has continued to work on this issue since our national conference last year and we look forward to updating the Deputy Prime Minister on our progress and to implementing strategies and programs to overcome the nations looming shortfall,” added Teresa Lloyd, MIAL CEO.

MIAL said it is also keen to discuss with the government the, “untenable state of the Seacare scheme; the need for action in the Domestic Commercial Vessel space to clarify requirements and establish and equitable cost recovery regime; and finding alternate sources of funding for the national biosecurity levy.”
