Deliveries include two US Navy berthing and messing barges, a training ship for a maritime institution in Texas, and a research vessel designed for US East Coast waters. New icebreaker orders have meanwhile been placed by a Finnish Government agency and the Canadian Coast Guard.
Shipbuilder Chantier Davie Canada has secured a contract from the Government of Canada to build six icebreakers for the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG).
The fixed-price contract is valued at AU$11.3 billion (US$8.15 billion). Construction of the first vessel will begin in 2027, with all vessels being delivered throughout the 2030s.
The new fleet will replace the coast guard's heavy and medium icebreakers operating in Atlantic Canada, the St. Lawrence waterways and the Great Lakes during the winter, and in the Arctic during the summer.
"This investment will ensure that the CCG can continue delivering the critical services that Canadians rely on every day, including keeping vital trade and transportation routes open year-round, supporting northern and coastal communities, protecting Canada's waters, and strengthening the country's presence and sovereignty in the Arctic," Davie said in a press release.
The Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency (FTIA) has awarded a contract for the construction of a new icebreaker to local company Helsinki Shipyard.
The vessel will be named Aino. She will replace the icebreaker Voima, which was also built by Helsinki Shipyard and is now over 70 years old.
Construction of the new icebreaker will begin in 2027 while delivery to the FTIA is scheduled for September 2029.
The new icebreaker will be built under a contract valued at approximately €170 million (US$200 million).
TOTE Services and Hanwha Philly Shipyard have delivered Lone Star State, the fourth of five national security multi-mission vessels (NSMV), to the US Department of Transportation's Maritime Administration.
The vessel will be homeported at Texas A&M Maritime Academy, where it will serve as the institution's primary training ship.
The vessel is intended to address a shortage of qualified officers for government and commercial sealift vessels while also supporting federal humanitarian and disaster response operations.
It is scheduled to arrive in Galveston, Texas, in November for a formal handover and will begin its first sea term in April 2027.
The University of North Carolina Wilmington's (UNCW) newest catamaran research vessel has departed on her delivery voyage.
Designed by New Zealand-based naval architecture firm Teknicraft, the aluminium-hulled Osprey will be operated primarily in Mid-Atlantic, US East Coast, and offshore waters.
The 78-foot (24-metre) vessel will serve as multi-purpose research platform capable of conducting a wide range of scientific missions including oceanographic surveys, biological studies, dive support, and educational outreach programs.
Designed to comply with US Coast Guard Subchapter T standards, the vessel will ensure safety and efficiency in diverse maritime environments.
Conrad Shipyard of Amelia, Louisiana, recently launched two new yard repair berthing and messing barges (YRBMs) ordered by the US Navy.
The non-self-propelled YRBM-63 and -64 belong to a new class of berthing barges built by Conrad for the US Navy. YRBM-57, the first barge in the class, was handed over to the navy in 2024.
Upon completion, each YRBM will have a length of 151.33 feet (46.125 metres), a beam of 49.33 feet (15.04 metres), a draught of 6.75 feet (2.06 metres) at full load, a depth of 14 feet (4.3 metres), a displacement of 1,290 tonnes, and a service life of 40 years.
