From Baird Maritime

Airport bookshops, particularly in Asia, are full of so called "self-help" books. This aspirational or inspirational literature is devoured by young executives with a desire to further their careers.

Your reviewer has never seen this particular book on display in Asia or elsewhere, though. That is a pity because it deserves to be much more widely read than it will be.

Essentially it is a simple little book that describes, warts and all, how one man, with strong family and moral support and enormous personal drive and energy lifted himself from comparatively modest beginnings to life as a global ship owner.

That he did so from origins in rural India is all the more remarkable. His current headquarters in the City of London is a long way, both geographically and economically, from there.

Ravi Mehrotra, despite his impressive success, remains refreshingly humble and enthusiastic. His generosity in bothering to write such a book is remarkable. It will undoubtedly inspire others to emulate him. That will be very good for the maritime industry.
