History of United States Naval Operations in World War II Volume 14
From Baird Maritime
The final in this magnificent epic series that has recently been re-published in paperpack about 60 years after its first release. A very economical way to purchase brilliant history.
Morison's talents and performance have been described here previously. Suffice to say his close friendship with President F.D. Roosevelt ensured his desire to record a "shooting history" of World War II was fully facilitated.
Victory in the Pacific, of course, also marked the end of World War II. The awe inspiring effort of America's Pacific Fleet, so ably led by Admiral Chester Nimitz and supported eccentrically but effectively by General Douglas MacArthur is described brilliantly in this book and its preceding 13 volumes.
Morison's books are, without doubt, the best and most readable of all the hundreds of naval histories read by your reviewer.
