From Baird Maritime:
When Brittania truly ruled the waves in the second half of the nineteenth century and first half of the twentieth, Vickers provided a significant slice of its warship fleet.
This finely presented book provides a compendium of excellent photographs of a cross section of the company's output from 1896 until 2007. They range from the cruisers HMS 'Powerful', 'Doris' and 'June' to the nuclear submarine HMS 'Astute'.
A wide range of other ships and boats from tiny submarines to battleships and aircraft carriers have been produced by this enormous shipyard on England's north-west coast. Many were built for foreign navies and some became famous for their wartime roles.
The company had its share of trials and tribulations. Despite changes of ownership, its core is still there some 120 years on. A great record.
