Spanish Gold: Captain Woodes Rogers & the True Story of the Pirates of the Caribbean

Marjorie Gerlinger
Author: David Cordingly
Publisher: Bloomsberry

From Baird Maritime

David Cordingly is a first rate writer and historian – he makes history fascinating. His "Cochrane the Dauntless" is a classic.

Not quite as good but still excellent, this telling of a captivating story is both enjoyable and educational.

From time-to-time in human history situations have arisen where one "hero" has been sent by his ruler, or government, to control crime, corruption, bullying or similar problems. The stories of Robin Hood, Wyatt Earp, Joan d'Arc all follow similar themes.

This is another one which happened to occur during a turbulent and fascinating period as Cordingly tells it, Rogers was effectively the Wyatt Earp of the Caribbean in the eighteenth century.

A great story well told.
