Sole Survivor: One Man’s Journey: Biography of John Norman Walton – Sole Survivor of HMS Neptune

Baird Maritime
Author: Norma Hudson
Publisher: The Memoir Club

From Baird Maritime:

In December 1941 the British cruiser HMS 'Neptune', sailing off Tripoli in North Africa, hit four mines in quick succession. She capsized and sank.

Of the ship's company of 765 there was only one survivor, Norman Walton. His experience as a young man largely formed his long life.

This biography, a very personal one, was put together by the subject's daughter. She has undertaken an enormous amount of research especially as her father rarely spoke of his experiences.

Other books have been written on the HMS 'Neptune' sinking. This is the only one that focuses on the one person who was actually there.
