VESSEL REVIEW | HMT Thor – Bespoke landing craft for Norwegian marine services provider

Norwegian boatbuilder Salthammer Båtbyggeri (SHB) recently delivered a new custom workboat to Norwegian marine services provider Hansen Maskin and Transport.

HMT Thor was built to a design developed by Norwegian naval architecture firm Tomra Engineering in close cooperation with the owner. The boat has a length of 26.1 metres (85.6 feet), a beam of 15 metres (49 feet), and an open forward deck that can accommodate various payloads. The deck cranes are from HS.Marine and Melcal while the hydraulic equipment is from Lorentzen Hydraulikk.

Designed to serve a range of sectors

Power is provided by two Scania DI13 main engines while PMH Norway supplied the steering system. ProCoat was used for the exterior surfaces.

One Electro was responsible for the electrical installation works while the wheelhouse electronics are from Marinelektronikk and cable and pipe works are by Roxtec and CDS Sealing Systems. One Group was responsible for the design work on the interiors, which also feature furniture from Shipnor. A fire extinguisher from Nortronik and other safety and rescue equipment from Viking Norsafe are also available.

SHB said the vessel can be operated in support of customers in the aquaculture and marine construction industries.

Lasse Stokkeland, General Manager at SHB, said the vessel was developed continuously, with redesign work and integration of new capability at various stages, and that all components used in the construction were sourced locally.
