Collaboration to introduce electric vessels in Singapore port waters

Jens Karsten

Yinson GreenTech and RMS Marine and Offshore Service have entered into a letter of intent (LOI) with the aim of adopting electric vessels to support the maritime operations of RMS within the port limits of Singapore.

Yinson will manage the vessels’ operations and maintenance. RMS will collaborate with Yinson using a marine digital platform to enable data-driven monitoring of its logistics services.

The signing of the LOI between Yinson and RMS followed the completion of a trial that both parties held on May 23, 2025, at Sudong Special Purpose Anchorage.

The trials saw the deployment of Yinson's electric workboat Hydromover to facilitate the transport of light cargo, demonstrating its ability to perform in a live operational environment.

Besides the swappable batteries that are incorporated to reduce vessel downtime due to lengthy charging periods, one notable feature of Hydromover is its hull, which is designed for efficient hydrodynamics to allow smooth and stable operation even in rough seas.

The optimised design also minimises drag and maximises energy efficiency.

The vessel is also equipped with a single-screen operating system that provides critical data and real-time information to the crew. It also boasts advanced decision-making capabilities including energy optimisation, waypoint calculation, collision avoidance, and berthing boundaries.
