Legacy in Wood: The Wahl Family Boat Builders

From Baird Maritime:

Sadly, perhaps, but inevitably, the world's wooden boat builders are either closing down or converting to other materials.

The Wahl family of Prince Rupert in Canada's British Columbia were fairly typical of the world's builders of high quality wooden vessels.

As with so many leading wooden boat builders, the Wahls were part of the great Norwegian diaspora of the first third of the twentieth century. They settled in western Canada which was geographically, topographically and climatically similar to their homeland.

From 1923 until 1990 Ed Wahl and his descendants built large numbers of wooden, mostly fishing, boats. They were and, in many cases still are, lovely boats.

A fine record of the boats and the craftsmen who built them.
