Bollinger Shipyards has nominated its Tampa shipyard for the design and construction of up to three heavy polar icebreakers, and three additional medium sized breakers under consideration by the US Coast Guard.
Bollinger is currently producing the Coast Guard's fast response cutter fleet at its facility in Lockport. So far, 29 vessels have been delivered with production of up to 58 vessels expected.
The US Coast Guard and Navy released a draft request for proposals for the detail design and construction of the icebreakers in October, 2017.
