From Africa to the Arctic: A Year on the Destroyer HMS Beagle during WWII

Baird Maritime
Author: Peter Ward
Publisher: Brewin Books

From Baird Maritime:

The author is a musician who joined the Royal Navy in 1941 at the age of nineteen. This book, derived from his diaries, describes his year as a Leading Seaman (Radar) during the "busy" part of World War II.

His diary, fortunately, was revived after being unread for fifty years. The 'Beagle' was the author's second ship and, while still comparatively small, much larger than the first, a corvette.

The 'Beagle' was a happy, effective ship that covered a lot of the mid and north Atlantic. She participated in plenty of action ranging from escorting Arctic convoys to supporting the D Day landings.

A valuable record.
