From Baird Maritime:

The fact that the Allied forces knew the radio codes of their Japanese and German enemies made winning the Second World War markedly easier.

This is the story of the Polish and British cryptanalysts who broke into the "impregnable" German Enigma code. Starting with the Luftwaffe and Wermacht code versions, they persevered and cracked the even tougher Kriegsmarine codes.

This made a huge difference to the Allied ability to counteract the U-Boat threat. Fittingly, the key to the naval Enigma codes were extracted from captured U-Boats themselves.

A fascinating story very well told.
