Baird Maritime

The US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Guatemalan authorities have captured a makeshift submarine carrying an estimated 10,000kg of cocaine.

Guatemalan Interior Minister Raul Velasquez told CNN that Colombian officials had alerted Guatemalans and Americans about the suspicious submarine.

The US diverted a DEA vessel in the Pacific Ocean which was heading elsewhere. Authorities caught the makeshift submarine in international waters on Wednesday night (October 21).

Authorities have arrested one Mexican national and three Colombians.

The amount of cocaine has not been confirmed but believed to be about 10,000kg.
