Double Cross: The True Story of the D-Day Spies

Marjorie Gerlinger
Author: Ben Macintyre
Publisher: Crown Publishers

From Baird Maritime

A fascinating story very well told. Apart from the disconcerting "Amerenglish" and the consequently essential explanations of the game of cricket, in the edition reviewed, this book read better than a James Bond novel. Even better than that it's all true.

The cast of characters is exotic and exciting. They cover a wide range from brave through inventive, imaginative, innovative, charismatic and cynical to cowardly and corrupt. Above all, they were an absolutely fascinating group of people.

Ben Macintyre tells the story of the Allied, particularly British, deception that completely fooled their mostly willing German victims as to Allied intentions regarding their planned and inevitable invasion of Nazi held mainland Europe.

One of the best stories ever written of intelligence and counter intelligence. An inspiration to modern intelligence officers.
