Delivery of advanced offshore seismic vessel

Baird Maritime

Norway's Bergen Group Fosen has recently delivered a new 108-metre-long advanced offshore seismic vessel to Volstad Marine.

The vessel will be operated by Norwegian company Fugro-Geoteam.

"Volstad is getting a state-of-the-art ship. The ship contains the latest and most advanced equipment that the international market can provide in this segment," said CEO Arnar Utseth at Bergen Group Fosen.

The hull of the vessel was built at Bergen Group Landskrona in Sweden and arrived Fosen in August 2009 for outfitting and commissioning.

The vessel, which was delivered to Volstad Maritime on February 26 is 108 metres long, 24 metres wide and has a gross tonnage of 13,000 tonnes. Modern diesel-electric engines from Wärtsilä provide a cruising speed of 16.5 knots.

The ship is built and prepared for advanced seismic operations, and has equipment that makes it possible to operate under very demanding conditions. The vessel has integrated the helicopter deck, four deck cranes and a cabin capacity of 72 persons.

The ship will now go from Fosen to the Netherlands to be equipped and prepared for seismic operations under the chart of Fugro-Geoteam.

The vessel's naming ceremony will take place in Stavanger on Friday March 19.

Bergen Group Fosen are now preparing for the next hull to be fitted at the shipyard. It is an advanced 3 DP construction vessel being built for the shipping company Solstad Offshore. The building of the hull is in these days finished up in Poland, and the hull is expected to arrive Fosen in the middle of March.
