From Baird Maritime:
The huge wave of migrants from Europe to Australia following World War Two was very largely carried by ships. Only in the final decade did air travel begin to dominate.

Greece's Chandris Line undertook the last mass movement of migrants from Britain and Europe at the end of 1977. The 'Australis' carried 650 "assisted" British migrants to Sydney.

The ships in the trade were a very mixed bag from very old to quite new. They ranged from rough and primitive to reasonably comfortable. However, "assisted" migrants were hardly in a position to choose.

All are listed, photographed and all described here. The author has done a very good job of marshalling his facts. It is a fine record of a very important and still memorable trade.
