UK firm introduces new ocean-going USV series

UK-based Zero USV, a company under unmanned systems specialist MSubs, recently introduced a new series of unmanned surface vehicle (USV).

The vessel is an upgraded version of a USV prototype that Zero USV launched earlier this year. The prototype had an operating range of 2,500 nautical miles while the newer version builds on the hybrid electric technology developed for the prototype and can increase overall mission duration to a 7,500 nautical miles.

It is also built for missions in remote areas or regions where access to traditional fuelling points is limited, ensuring that operations can continue uninterrupted.

The USV boasts an increased LOA from 11.55 metres to 13 metres. It also has solar charging capability for house and emergency loads.

The customisable design features an adaptable payload bay and a quick change keel, which will allow preloaded sensors to be swapped in or out with minimal downtime.

The craft can be either remotely controlled or allowed to operate on full autonomy. It can achieve a cruising speed of six knots and a sprint speed of 10 knots with a minimal payload.
