‘OOCL Brisbane’ named at Samsung yard

OOCL held a christening ceremony for the 'OOCL Brisbane' on July 17 at Samsung Heavy Industries' Geoje yard.

The  vessel is the eighth Panamax-class boxship in a series of 16 4,500TEU vessels ordered from the South Korean builder.

The new vessel was christened the 'OOCL Brisbane' by the ship's sponsor, Samantha Honan, the daughter of Dick Honan, Chairman of the Manildra Group, an Australian processor of wheat and an OOCL customer in Australia.

The vessel was named after the Port of Brisbane in Australia.

The 'OOCL Brisbane' will be deployed on the Asia-Australia AEA 2 service.

The port rotation is: Yokohama – Osaka – Busan  – Shanghai – Ningbo – Hong Kong – Kaohsiung – Melbourne – Sydney – Brisbane – Yokohama on a 35-day round trip.
